Jean-Michel Garetti studied oboe at the CNSM in Paris, in the classes of Maurice Bourgue, David Walter, and Jacques Tys, where he obtained a First Prize with unanimous distinction in 1994 and later his Advanced Training Diploma in 2011.
From 1989 to 1996, he held the position of solo English horn with the Orchestre de L’Opéra de Saint-Etienne (France), and from 1996 to 2002, he served with the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, performing concertos by R. Strauss, Jean Françaix, Vivaldi, Bach, and Copland.
He taught oboe at the Academia Superior de Orquestra de Lisboa until 2002.
Since 2003, Jean-Michel Garetti has been the solo English horn of the Orchestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música and a professor of oboe and chamber music at the University of Aveiro. He is also the founder and director of the specialized website www.oboesales.com.
