Matteo Trentin

Born in 1980 in Rovigo, Italy, he began studying the oboe with F. Oriani at the city’s conservatory. After graduating, he continued his training with L. Vignali.

He began working professionally in orchestras in Italy at a very early age and, at the age of 21, won his first position with the Milan Symphony Orchestra under the baton of R. Chailly. Two years later, he was appointed co-soloist with the Florence Opera Orchestra, with Z. Mehta as principal conductor.

He joined numerous orchestras as principal oboe, including the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala, the Orchestra Filarmonica del Teatro alla Scala, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and the Orchestra Sinfonica dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and played under conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Lorin Maazel, and Seiji Ozawa…

In 2012, he won the position of principal oboe with both the Turin Opera Orchestra and the Bologna Opera Orchestra, where he remained for six years before taking up the position of principal oboe with the Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Lyon in 2018.
