Gioele Coco

Gioele Coco, born in Catania in 1993, began his musical studies at the age of 13 with Angelo Palmeri, a professor at the conservatory of Caltanissetta. He later studied at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano with Fabien Thouand, principal oboe of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

While studying in Lugano, he won a competition at the Accademia della Scala, where he had the opportunity to work with several conductors and artists such as Fabio Luisi, Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach, Lorenzo Viotti, and David Coleman.

After graduating in Lugano, he achieved the entrance exam for a master’s degree at the CNSMD in Lyon. During his two years in Lyon, Gioele won the first prize at the first “Saminum Cittá di Benevento International Oboe Competition”, and was a finalist with an honorary mention at the “XII International Oboe Competition” in Tokyo in 2018.

He has collaborated with several orchestras, including the Orchestre National de Bordeaux Aquitaine, Orchestre National de Lyon, the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa.

In 2021, he joined the Ruse Opera Orchestra (Bulgaria) as co-solo oboist. That same year, he won the first prize at the Aeolus International Competition, becoming the first oboist in the history of the competition to win first place.

In 2022, Gioele joined the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen as principal oboe.
